“If your job is to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And if your job is to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.”
This classic quote, attributed to Mark Twain, is one of the best tips to get things done.
It’s a way to do what you know you need to do, but you don’t necessarily want to do.
It’s a strategy to stop copying the same task on your to-do list, day after day, week after week.
Instead of hoping that it magically gets done, bite the bullet – or eat the frog.
Whatever it is, do it first, before you do anything else on your to-do list and others demand your attention.
Eating the frog is the antidote for procrastination.
Look, we all know what we need to do.
Ironically, the things we least want to do, are often the most important ones…
So look at your never-ending to-do list.
Circle the one thing you know you should do, but don’t feel like doing.
That’s typically your frog.
To make eating the frog more palatable, prepare for it the night before:
If your frog is giving an unpleasant phone call, prepare the phone number.
If you need to have a difficult conversation, prepare your main talking points.
If you have to finish a project, prepare the different moving parts that you will need.
Do it before you check your email, the news or social media.
You can check those later, and they actually can be your reward for eating the frog.
